Wyoming Range

Back

Photo © Wyoming Travel & Tourism

This high-elevation backcountry of elk range and trout streams anchors the southern reaches of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and is a favorite of resident hunters, anglers, and horsemen. The Wyoming Range is a paradise of quiet roads and trails and fields of wildflowers, is rich in Oregon Trail history and recreational opportunities.

Extending nearly 80 miles (130 kilometers) in western Wyoming, the mountains are home to deer, elk, moose, mountain lion, lynx, grizzly and black bears.

Recreational Opportunities

Along with the nearby Salt River Range, the Wyoming Range provides uncrowded recreational opportunities equal to its more well known neighbors, the Wind River Range, Gros Venture Mountains, and Tetons.

Trails are open to hikers, mountain bikers, horseback riders in the summer, and snowmobilers in the winter.

Seasons Accessible

Accessible year-round. Roads are usually snow free from mid-July to mid-October.
