Historic Crail Ranch

Back

Weekend quilt shows, craft markets, and fiddle music vitalize this early 20th century homestead as a living expression of Big Sky culture, then and now.

About this Establishment

The Historic Crail Ranch is the oldest original building in Big Sky, Montana, and is open to visitors during the summer months, on weekends. The unique log structure preserves the story of Augustus Franklin Crail, his family, and their life in the Big Sky Community in the early 1900's.
Augustus Franklin Crail moved his family to Gallatin Canyon Basin - now called Big Sky - in 1902, after he purchased the small cabin and a 160-acre homestead for less than $1.00 per acre. Over the next four decades, the family built a 2-story house and ranched most of what is now Meadow Village. Members of the family lived on the ranch until 1950 when the property was sold to another family, and was occupied as a residence until the early 1980s.
A visit to our living history site will give you an authentic view of life as a western pioneer and the splendor of the old west.
