Description of Event

Geology and pack trips offer unforgettable experiences in Yellowstone country

An exceptional field trip: “Geology: East of Yellowstone” takes participants on an unforgettable tour of the geologic wonders in the magnificent region encompassing northeast Yellowstone National Park and the Absaroka and Beartooth mountain ranges between Red Lodge, Montana, and Cody, Wyoming. The guide is Dr. Robert Carson, Phillips Professor of Geology and Environmental Studies at Whitman College in Walla Walla, Washington.

Carson is one of the region’s foremost geologists, and the trip, from June 15 – 18, 2011, explores the long and dramatic geological history of mountain building episodes, volcanism, and a giant landslide that has shaped the area. Cost of the trip is $760 person, with a single supplement of $194.

Of the cost of each trip, $200 is a charitable, tax-deductible donation to the Historical Center. Those curious to learn more can access video footage of similar field trips on the Historical Center’s Web site at www.bbhc.org/gynh/programs.
