This segment of the Continental Divide National Scenic Trail passes through the Centennial Mountains from Monida to Red Rock Pass. The trail winds through some of the most scenic country in southwestern Montana. Recreational opportunities for this segment include hiking, horseback riding, camping, hunting and photography. Backcountry skiing can be excellent in the east end of the mountains although access is difficult.

Trailheads are located at Tipton-Winslow, Nemesis Mountain, and Red Rock Pass on the Montana side of the mountains. Trailheads are accessible for hiking only during the summer months.

The Conteninental Divide Trail (CDT) stretches over 3000 miles from Canada to Mexico, through five western states Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado and New Mexico. Trail users can view some of the most spectacular scenery in the United States and have an opportunity to enjoy a greater diversity of physical and natural qualities than found on any other extended trail.

The trail provides a unique opportunity for recreationists to experience some of the most beautifully primitive, and challenging landscapes in the western United States and serves hundreds of thousands of people each year. It provides a resource for a variety of recreation experiences, including hiking, horseback riding, mountain biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife viewing, fishing, hunting and sight-seeing. Because of its remoteness, the CDT provides a unique experience that is more and more difficult to find and increasingly sought.
